Basements / Cellar Tanking

Kenwood Plc undertake a wide range of basement waterproofing operations, including treatment to understreet vaults, cellars, basements and lower ground floor accomodation such as garden flats.

Our waterproofing treatments can be undertaken either by providing a complete new system to a basement area or vault, or by undertaking repairs to damp walls within an existing basement.

Kenwood tanking is very effective when carried out using the Kenwood cementicious structural waterproofing system (Kenwood SWS), Kenwood Rapid or a cavity drain membrane. We are fully conversant with all tanking and waterproofing operations and offer a range of treatment options to meet your needs.

Kenwood Cementicious Tanking Systems

Kenwood cementicious tanking (Kenwood SWS) is often the preferred method, as this provides a solid wall finish, consistent with other areas of the property and does not normally require additional drainage or sump pumps to be installed and maintained. Kenwood SWS tanking system provides a reliable, effective method of damp proofing below ground areas. The system is ideally suited to masonry structures and basements often found in older properties.

Treatment involves removal of the existing wall plaster and paint etc., in order to provide a sound substrate to receive the waterproofing system. Kenwood SWS multicoat tanking slurry is then applied to the brickwork or basecoat by either brush, low pressure spray or trowel, depending on the particular project. Kenwood rapid is available to flat soffit areas and to stem the flow of physical water if present. Kenwood rapid having the advantage of being capable of setting in water.
Following the application of Kenwood waterproofing products to the substrate, the walls are replastered using Kenwood Premix waterproof rendering system, incorporating salt inhibiters to combat the effects of ground salts in the masonry. The walls are then skimmed with plaster to provide a smooth finish.

Complete systems may include a new waterproof floor screed in conjunction with treatment to to the walls. Kenwood Structural waterproofing system is ideal for use on basement rooms and underground vaults.

Cavity Drain Membranes

An alternative method of basement waterproofing is a Cavity drain membrane. As the name suggests, this method involves the principle of 'draining' water into a sump/drain rather than preventing water entering the building. Drainage channels are formed around the perimeter of the room and the studded membrane is fixed to the substrate, incorporating drainage arrangements to discharge the water ingress behind the membrane into a drain or sump pump.

The membrane joints are heat welded to ensure a waterproof seal and the completed membrane is used to create a dry internal envelope which is then plastered or drylined as required.

Kenwood Plc's tanking treatments are suited to most basement situations and we offer a free report / quotation service. Installation is carried out by our own fully skilled operatives, which ensures the integrity of the installation and enables our guarantee to be issued on the works.

Our cementicious tanking systems (Kenwood SWS) are typically guaranteed for ten years and membrane installations for five years. Additional insurance backed guarantees are also available if required.
