You do not need to be certain you have a problem. The point of a survey is to find out what you are dealing with, and equally to rule out problems that do not exist. A good surveyor will tell you honestly if there is nothing serious to address.
What the Surveyor Checks
A thorough damp survey covers the full property, not just the areas where symptoms are visible. Damp rarely stays where it starts, and the source is often some distance from where damage appears.
External inspection
The surveyor will start outside. They will check gutters, downpipes, and drainage channels for blockages or leaks. They will inspect the condition of external render, pointing, and brickwork for defects that could allow water ingress. They will look at ground levels relative to the damp proof course line, checking for bridging from raised patios, paths, soil, or render.
