What Is a Damp Survey & Do You Need One?
A damp survey is a professional inspection conducted by a qualified damp surveyor to identify the source, type, and extent of any damp or moisture in your property. As a result, you receive a full report of the damp survey’s findings, showing what was found and which treatments are recommended.
At Kenwood, our PCA-accredited surveyors carry out professional damp surveys in your property, whether you’re a homeowner or property manager. We’ll locate the source of the damp and will effectively remedy it if you choose to work with our team.

What Does a Damp Survey Involve?
When a damp survey is carried out on your property, our surveyors will first thoroughly inspect your home. This involves a visual inspection, where they search for signs of damp, condensation, woodworm, and types of rot.
Next, they will use moisture meters and other industry-standard diagnostic equipment to detect the levels of moisture in certain areas. High-risk areas like walls, floors, joists and basements are reviewed and tested, and in some cases we may lift floorboards to check for decay.
Typically, our surveyors are checking for rising damp, penetrating damp and signs of condensation. This helps them find the source of moisture, which can inform them on the appropriate method of treatment.
What’s Included in the Report?
Once we complete the damp survey, you’ll get a full damp and timber report covering:
- A breakdown of the problems found
- A computer-aided floor plan
- Identified problem areas
- Recommended treatments explained in detail
- A specification with a priced quote for the needed work
Our reports are recognised by banks, building societies, and mortgage lenders, making them useful for buyers, sellers, and current owners or landlords.
What Happens After the Survey?
After the damp survey, you receive the report and a quote within an agreed timeframe. We give you our recommended treatments, but you have no obligation to proceed with Kenwood’s treatments.
How Much Does a Damp Survey Cost?
There is no single default cost for a damp survey because the price depends on the size of your property. However, if you wish to continue using Kenwood to treat your property after the results, you’ll receive a refund of £180 from the initial survey.
